The Kashmir Files Review: Very rarely does a movie come that really covers a very controversial topic as it is. And The Kashmir Files is definitely one of them. The movie covers one of the most controversial yet forgotten tragedies of our country.
The Kashmir Files covers that dark period of our country that wasn’t talked about enough. A chapter that was erased from the books of our country and was never looked back at. A true shame that even our own citizens do not know about.
And the way the movie shows everything so bluntly is something I adore so much. I don’t think I have seen any movie that depicted something so controversial with such bluntness. It is something so amazing and overwhelming at the same time.
The Kashmir Files Review: Plot
The movie is set between the years 1989 to 1991. When JKLF(Jammu And Kashmir Liberation Front), which was a radical Islamic group started a bloodbath of Kashmiri Pandits and Kashmiri Hindus.
And this movie shows that in such a raw fashion without sugarcoating anything. The makers did not try to even censor anything and just showed everything as it was. And I am shocked and happy that CBFC let that happen.
There are three scenes exclusively that will shake you down from your core. And the last scene will not let you sleep at the night.
The Kashmir Files Review: Positives
Brutal Honesty
The truth of Kashmiri Pandit is shown so brutally in this movie that you will start to think that it is just a lie. But that is not the case. It just did not fit the narrative of anyone and that is why it was brushed off as a lie.
The final monologue of the movie by Darshan Kumar will reveal every secret about the Hindu Pandit in such a simple yet effective way. It will really make you wonder how much we don;t know about our own history.
The movie also shows how people shrugged everything related to this incident and called it propaganda. And it will completely shock you.
Cast
No matter what everyone says about Anupam Kher, we all know how great actor he is. And this movie shows that exactly. The way he carried the movie on his back is just tremendous. You can actually feel the terror and fear in his voice and in his eyes.
Darshan Kumar is just brilliant as a young college student who gets brainwashed but comes to the realization by the end of the movie. Chinmay Mandlekar was the breakout star of the movie. He played the role of Faruq Ahmed so brilliantly.
Other cast members like Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Amaan Iqbal did a pretty good job.
The Kashmir Files Review: Negatives
The only sad thing about this movie is not even on the part of the movie. It is because of all of us that will not go and watch this movie in the halls and wait for it to come down on OTT platforms. No big celebrity will shout out this movie.
And that is why it is getting such a limited release because even they know not many people will watch it. Everyone will wait for it to come on OTT and then watch it. And by that time the whole hype will be dead and we will be back at square one.
The Kashmir Files: Is It Worth It?
Yes, this is the kind of movie that you should watch. People will say that this movie is propaganda and all that. But this is one of the most important chapters of our country and you should watch it no matter what.
You will realize how little you know about our own history and how people have been brainwashed and brushing off matters like these for such a long time.
