Australia spinner Todd Murphy made a positive impact on his Test debut by taking 7 wickets in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur.

Murphy recorded the second-best figures by an Australian debutant in India, behind only Jason Krejza, who took 8 wickets at the same venue in November 2008.

Murphy was the only bowler who really troubled the Indian batting line-up, adding 400 runs in the second innings.

KL Rahul became Murphy's first wicket in Test cricket as the off-spinner bowled a delivery from around the wicket, which Rahul flicked straight at Murphy.

The 22-year-old looked like the only bowler who was able to trouble the Indian batsmen at the start of the second day.

The debutant then dismissed the flexible Cheteshwar Pujara for just seven off 14 balls.

Murphy lofted the ball down the leg side and Pujara tried to sweep the paddle, getting a top edge that straight to Scott Boland at short fine leg.

He then got his biggest Test wicket to date by dismissing former India captain Virat Kohli for just 12 runs.
