Halicon drops the name of the band on the T-shirt Joel's daughter Sarah played by Nico Parker wears at the start of the show - and the game.

The game doesn't have any real significance for the band other than a few posters, but the back of the T-shirt depicts how the game plays:

When Joel, Tommy, and Sarah are trying to escape Austin during the chaos of the initial outbreak, the show's director makes clever use of camera angles to make The Last of Us feel like a video game.

With the camera on the back seat, it's all in third person view. That's exactly how the game is shot out of the truck - you're still playing as Sarah at that point, and she's in the back seat.

Many of us immediately noticed that it feels like a video game during these shots, a trick that's put to much better use here than in other TV adaptations of the game.

Sara wakes up in her bedroom in the middle of the night in both the game and the TV show, stumbling around in her sleep in the dark to see what is happening.

Both scenes provide a bit more context but in different ways.

In the video game, you control Sarah, and she is watching her house in the dark.
