Bheeshma Parvam Movie Review: Amal Neerad's Mammootty ‘Mass Act’

Bheeshma Parvam Movie Review: Mammootty and Amal Neerad reunite in ‘Bheeshma Parvam,’ around 15 years after Big B. This film offers a feast of flashy slow movements and dramatic language as promised.

The opening sequences are reminiscent of Bollywood’s ‘Sarkar’ and Hollywood’s ‘The Godfather.’

A strong leader of the Kauravas’ bad armies in the Kurukshetra battle, Bheeshma is also known for his uncompromising morals and championing of dharma in the Mahabharata. Mammootty, as Michael, plays a similar role as the leader of a powerful criminal family who must strike a balance between family and dharma.

Bheeshma Parvam Movie Review

The movie is an all-out Mammootty show, and seeing him in slow-motion on the big screen is a visual pleasure. Sushin Shyam’s dynamic background soundtrack completes the enthralling experience.

This action-crime drama is a success due to Mammooty’s baritone outbursts and excellent stunt work. The narrative addresses current societal concerns such as honor killing, beef bans, and caste inequality.

Since the film opens by reminding us of Kevin and Neenu (in 2018, Dalit Christian from in Kerala’s Kottayam region Kevin P Joseph, 23, was shot dead after marrying 21-year-old Neenu Chacko Neenu was a Christian from a wealthy household who married Kevin despite her parents’ desires.

When the titles roll, a judge convicts Neenu’s brother and nine others for Kevin’s murder.
In the film, Mammootty also states that the family’s decision is to support two people who are in love with each other.

Nadhiya Moidu, Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Shine Tom Chacko, and Dileesh Pothan are guarding important members of Michael’s ‘Anjootti’ family. Seeing late performers Nedumudi Venu and KPAC Lalitha on film again were also heartwarming. Seeing their talent on film is a wonderful opportunity.

They play characters that are reminiscent of the evil ‘Kuttoosan’ and ‘Dakini’ from the ‘Balarama’ comics but command respect and grace. The use of sequences and phrases from Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Sarkar’ was maybe Amal Neerad’s sole disappointment.

With such a beautifully written narrative, it may have been avoided while still performing the mass action.

Sudev Nair, who plays the role of Rajan, is the antagonist in the film.

As Mammootty is all-powerful like Bheeshma, he even says that he has the power to kill himself, so Rajan has very little power to stop him. Shyam’s magic works well throughout the 144-minute film, with the song ‘Parudeesa…’ already a big hit before the film was released.

In spite of the fact that the movie is set in the 1980s, the production has successfully capitalized on the nostalgia of that era, with old bread packets, antique cars, and cassette, VCR, and Walkman players.

The filmmaker and production staff deserve praise for transporting us to a world before cell phones. When combined with Anend C Chandran’s cinematography, you’re in for a surprise.
If you like Mammootty’s mass acts like Big B, this is a must-see.
