Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Review: With all the hype around this project, it is bound to be a hit. But the main question was, will the sequel to one of the best Bollywood comedies ever be any good? Will it match the magic that the original left?
And the answer is obviously “NO”. Bhool Bhulayaia 2 is nowhere near the level of the original. And that is where we are wrong for judging this movie. This movie might not be on the original level, but it still stands out on its own.
If you are going to the theater with an open mind you are going to enjoy this movie. We were skeptical about this movie and how it would perform after watching the trailer. But that was a brilliant masterstroke by the makers.
We don’t know if it was intentional or not, but the trailer really killed any expectations we had of this movie. And that is exactly why we enjoyed it so much. There were so many great scenes and the trailer was the complete opposite of that. Also read: ‘Dhaakad’ actress Kangana Ranaut bought a luxury car, the price is in crores; will fly away.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Review: Plot Analysis
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Review: The sequel sets out 18 years after the events of the first movie. Where Manjulika was suppressed in the room. But due to uncertain events, lies, cover-ups, and naivety, the room was reopened and we all know what that means.
Thakur Mansion once again is haunted by the spirit of Manjulika and help is needed. And because of that everyone in the manor has to move to the old house. This is where Rohan Randhawa gets into the mansion to cover up for Reet.
But he soon realizes that the mysterious elements are not fake or any kind of myth. The ghost of Manjulika is real and it is horrifying. And from there he tries to uncover the truth behind the reappearance and the story gets unfolded. You may like: Jayeshbhai Jordaar Box Office Collection Day 7 – All Time Collection
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Review: What Worked For The Movie?
Background Score
While the songs of the movie are bad, we will get into that later. The background score of the movie is completely scary and downright amazing. Sandeep Shirodkar has to be praised in that part.
Balance
The balance between Horror and comedy is something that this movie does perfectly. Anees Bazmee really balanced out both parts and did not make this movie lopsided. It was a perfect mixture.
Genuine Gags
The comedy is nowhere on the level of the original one, but it is still funny in parts. There were some genuine gags that will make you laught—especially the scenes revolving around Rajpal Yadav and Sanjay Mishra. Also read: Sarkaru Vaari Paata Box Office Collection Day 8
Tabu, Rajpal Yadav and Sanjay Mishra
Now, let’s talk about the real star of the movie. Obviously, you are going to miss Akshay Kumar and his comedy timing. But the complete cast makes up for it to a certain extent. Some of Sanjay Mishra and Rajpal Yadav’s scenes are downright hysterical.
But the real star of the movie is undoubtedly Tabu. She is everywhere and had a very tricky role. And it came as no surprise that she excelled in her role completely.
Kartik Aryan also did some wonders with his comedy timing but he was entirely overshadowed by Tabu. This was Tabu’s movie and no one can argue with us on that.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Review: What Did Not Worked For The Movie?
Songs
The songs were never even comparable with the original one; there was no doubt about that. But the fact that Pritam was producing the songs alongside some amazing musicians, was completely underwhelming.
This also comes as a surprise when you realize that Pritam was also the music producer in the original movie as well. Almost every song of the movie is kind of underwhelming even if we don’t compare it with the original one. You may like: Downtown Abbey: A New Era Review – A Cheerful, Golden Death
Inconsistency
As we said that there were some pretty fantastic comedy scenes in the movie but the inconsistencies between them were something really unsettling. And the inconsistency does not only finish with comedy scenes but with editing and themes as well.
There are so many classic Bollywood comedy dialogues that are outright cringy. Sanjay Mishra especially had to deal with this predicament when one of his taglines revolved around calling people fat.
Farhad Samji has done his best work in this movie, but scenes and dialogues like these really bring out the classic Samji that we all know.
Lack Of Horror
The movie had a good amount of horror, but it still lacked something. And after thinking about it for a long time, we realized what it lacked. The first was comedy genius, but so many times it brought out horror elements that were able to scare you completely.
The mental issues that Vidya Balan [Bio] deals with in the first part are something so well written. And this sequel completely lacked that part. It is rather simplistic in that approach and that is not a bad thing but still a downer.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Review: Is It Worth It?
It is entirely worth it if you don’t go and compare it with the original one. It is a good movie in its own right and that is a commendable job. There will always be comparisons and weights of the original one, but I think this movie even passed that exam successfully.
If you are really looking for a fun time without being skeptical of every little thing like us, you can go and watch it. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 delivered on what it promised to deliver and that was a horror-comedy.
