Darlings have to be one of the most brilliant Bollywood movies I have seen. And the smartness of the movie starts right from the trailer. The movie’s trailer has been so well cut that it will confuse you.
You might think Alia Bhatt is in the negative role, but the truth is entirely different. And it is a very fresh and welcoming change from the recent trailers that show us the complete movie in only 4 minutes.
Don’t get me wrong; Darlings is not a masterpiece in Dark Comedy. But it is one of the few good dark comedies of Bollywood. And there is always balancing out the scene in the movie no matter the situation.

The movie revolves around Badrunissa Sheikh, a victim of domestic violence by her husband, Hamza Sheikh. The story follows her retaliation with the help of her mother and friend to get out of this hell hole.

Production
The production of this movie is just amazing. The attention to detail in every scene is just commendable. You can hear neighbors in every scene; it just establishes how usual domestic violence is in our country and how sad it is.
True To Its Genre
The best thing about Darlings is that it is an actual Dark Comedy movie. And all the things happening in the movie are followed by a comedy scene. Whenever there is an emotional scene, it will be balanced out by comedy.
And it was not even bad; the comedy scenes were good for the most part. You will actually laugh at the jokes. And the situational comedy scenes are brilliant as well. You will enjoy the comedy of this movie.
Cast
The best thing about Darlings is the movie’s cast and how well they all blend. Seeing how much Alia Bhatt has grown leaps and bounds is amazing. Her performance here is commendable; she might be the best actress in 2022.
Shefali Shah and Vijay Verma are the real stars of the movie. They both are proven actors and showed us why that is. Both artists stole the show and gave you some of the best performances ever.
Unpredictability
The unpredictability in this movie is just on the next level. You won’t be able to figure out what will happen in the next scene and why characters behave like that. But as the movie reaches the climax, everything starts making sense.
And you will be surprised at the revelation, which will blow your mind. But you have to watch the movie till the end; otherwise, you won’t be able to enjoy the beauty of the movie.
Darlings Review: What Did Not Worked For The Movie?
Runtime
There will be a time when you will think that the movie has slowed down a little. And you will start thinking that if the movie was cut 20 minutes short, it would have been a masterpiece. The runtime just lags the movie a little bit.
It is not much but just nitpicking for the sake of it. But, yes, if the movie was 1:45 minutes instead of 2 hours, we would have been calling it the movie of the year.

Darlings Review: As we just said, the movie is not a masterpiece. But it is true to its genre, and there are very few dark comedy movies in India. And this might be the best out of those bunch. It just shows that even this genre has the potential to grow in India.
The decision to release it on OTT was the right one as the OTT audience can actually appreciate this movie rather than the theater audience. So, overall, Darlings is a movie that should be watched.
