The Gray Man Review: Finally, one of the biggest action movies of the year has hit your screens. OTT platforms have given us some of the best opportunities in recent times. Many big movies opt to go for these OTT platforms rather than theaters.
It was necessary in times of pandemic, but producers and makers are still choosing this option. And when massive projects like The Gray Man turn to OTT rather than the theatrical release, it is even better.
The Gray Man was released earlier today and there were lots of reasons why the Indian fans were looking out for the movie. Apart from the amazing action sequences, our own Bollywood star, Dhanush was also in the movie.
But is the movie worth it or not, that is the real question. So here are us with The Gray Man review telling you the good and bad aspects of the movie and our overall experience.
The Gray Man Review: Plot
The Gray Man Review: What Worked For The Movie?
Action Scenes
The action scenes of this movie are absolutely brilliant. We did not expect anything less from the Russo brothers’ movie. And it did not disappoint even a little bit. There are certain scenes that we could not comprehend how a person can shoot.
The chase scenes were by far the best thing in the movie. The action choreography was amazing and the synchronization is something to marvel at(pun intended). You owe to yourself as an action fan to watch this movie.
Cast
The cast for this movie was selected so smartly and it worked out for the best. Chris Evans as an antagonist was giving true sinister vibes. After seeing him in positive roles for so long it was refreshing to see him as the evil mastermind with no back story.
Ana De Armas was once again a badass just like her Bond portrayal. But this time she got more screen time, which is always a welcome change. Ryan Reynolds always had positive screen time and that was good.
Now talking about Dhanush. He was there for four scenes in the movie, but all of those scenes were amazing. He was presented as a no-nonsense agent and looked amazing. We hope to see more of him in the future in these endeavors.
Larger Than Life
The movie gives you a larger-than-life experience. So much that you want it to be released in theaters for certain scenes. The amazing cinematography and CGI make for some of the most intense action scenes we have seen in a long time.
The Gray Man Review: What Did Not Worked For The Movie?
Screenplay
There were certain scenes that were questionable at least. The scene where agents were bewildered after getting to know the target amidst the missions. I mean, if you are a good agent won’t you know about that already?
There are other scenes as well that was quite confusing. And most importantly you won’t get attached to the story and that is the worst part. You won’t feel anything even if someone dies or gets removed.
Pushing Reality
Russo Brothers are working on MCU for a very long time. Those characters are hypothetical and have mysterious powers. But, here in The Gray Man, we were dealing with real humans in the real world.
There were certain scenes that kept pushing the boundaries between reality and fiction. I know that we can’t find logic in an action flick but there should be a line that should not be crossed, and this movie crossed it sometimes.
Character Depth
Another thing that hurt the movie was there was no character depth. You won’t get any chance to get attached to the characters on any level whatsoever. And the sad thing is there are so many amazing characters in the movie.
You want to get behind them, but you don’t have any reason for that. You have to follow the writers just because the script told you someone is good and someone is bad. And that is something that the movie could have improved upon.
The Gray Man Review: Is It Worth It?
The Gray Man Review: From a movie perspective, it is a great action flick, but lacks character depth and a good story. If you are an action fan, you have to watch it. There are some of the best action scenes you will ever watch.
But if you are looking for a movie that will make you feel something, you should look for something else. And in a week where your second option is Shamshera, you should pick The Gray Man for better and more comfortable viewing.
