Top Gun Maverick Review: Finally, the most awaited movie of 2022 has been released. If we look into the context, Top Gun: Maverick has been one of the most awaited movies for two years now. The sequel to the 1986 hit movie was scheduled to release in 2020.
The movie was delayed to perfect the action sequences and then the pandemic happened. Even when the production was completed, the movie could not release because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Top Gun: Maverick is dedicated to the director of the original movie Tony Scott. Who sadly passed away in 2012. And, what a send-off this was. Top Gun: Maverick is undoubtedly a perfect movie in every aspect.
You don’t need to watch the first part for this sequel. But if you have watched the first part, this movie just hits differently. There is something more than nostalgia driving this movie and it is such a beautiful thing to see.
Top Gun Maverick Review: Plot
Top Gun Maverick Review: The movie is set 30 years after the release of the first movie. Pete Mitchell is still where he belongs and is readying a new fearless pilot squad. He is training a detachment of graduates for a particular assignment.
But it will not be easy considering how Pete really is, he has too many ghosts in past to bury. And the adrenaline junkie that he is, it will be really hard. And the hardship is not only for him.
Every student that he has trained for this specific mission has to face their deepest fears. It culminates in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.

Action Sequences
Well, they really made most of the two years the movie was delayed. Because every action scene in this movie was just phenomenal. It was a sight to see undoubtedly. Especially the final action scene.
Even though that scene takes more than 20 minutes, it will be over in like 2-3 minutes for you. That is how much you will be invested in this movie.
Balance
We have seen so many sequels just for the sake of cash grab. Tempting everyone on the basis of nostalgia and nothing more. Well, Top Gun: Maverick stands out of those lots and actually gives us a good story.
It remained true to the original and gave us something new as well. And that is very rare to see in a sequel of a cult classic. There is not a single lazy scene and the makers understood what fans really wants from this movie. And they delivered it brilliantly.
Tom Cruise
I don’t think we will see an artist like Tom Cruise ever again. This movie should stop everyone from saying that he is just a big name, He has shown us his acting capabilities again and again, and this movie is the same.
He is 60 years old and is doing things that actors in their 20s are hesitant to do. It is a sight to see him on the screen and something you will cherish for a long time.

Top Gun Maverick Review: What Did Not Worked For The Movie?
Too Much Focus On Tom Cruise
That is not a bad thing per se, the movie is riding on Tom Cruise’s back only. But what made the first movie so good was how invested you were in the rivalry between the fellow trainees. The intense rivalry really made you invested in that.
Sadly, the sequel really tries to portray that with Hangman and Rooster but it never reaches the intensity level that will make you care. Now, the main focus of the movie is Maverick and the trainer.
It was obvious that the ego battles between the pilots will be a secondary factor. But it was so sidelined that you could feel something was missing from the movie.
Too Cheesy
Now, this might be nitpicking, but we are doing it for the sake of it. The nostalgia factor of the movie was limited to a certain extent, but in certain scenes, it was somehow too much. And every flashback scene was a little too cheesy for this modern era.
Even the romantic angle that the movie feature was not completely necessary and it had the same impact. It did not necessarily hinder the movie as a whole, but there were certain aspects that affected the experience a little bit.
