The Congress leader and Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel had invited all Chhattisgarh MLAs to watch ‘The Kashmir Files’, at a mall in Raipur, Chattisgarh. The Kashmir files movie is based on the real-life incidents of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from their own land, Kashmir.
‘The Kashmir Files’ showed that the central government of that time running with the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) did not try to stop the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley, Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Wednesday after watching Vivek Agnihotri’s film at a mall in Raipur. The Congress leader watched the movie with all Chhattisgarh MLAs at a mall in Raipur.
Chattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel told reporters that the movie was half-cooked and there was just an attempt to show violence. Set around 1989-90, Baghel said, ‘The Kashmir Files’ also had a political message suggesting that VP Singh was the prime minister and the BJP-supported government didn’t send the army support for the Kashmiri Pandits despite President’s rule in the state.
Baghel silently tried to shift the concept of the movie from Kashmiri Pandits to all Indians in the Valley. He tried to make the movie patriotic instead of communal.
“The protagonist says not only Hindus but also Buddhists, Sikhs, Muslims, and everyone who stood with India was also killed,” Baghel said.

फिल्म में दिखाया गया है कि भाजपा के सहयोग से चल रही सरकार ने कश्मीरी पंडितों को रोकने का प्रयास नहीं किया था, बल्कि उन्हें जाने को कहा।

The Chhattisgarh CM was one of the very few Congress leaders to watch the Bollywood film based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. He also invited all the MLAs of Chhattisgarh. As BJP-ruled states made the movie tax-free, Baghel requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce the removal of central GST to make the film tax-free across the country.
The Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel wants the whole nation to watch the movie and know the history of what Kashmiri Pandits has been through.
Recently a video showing an old lady crying after watching the movie and blessing the creators went viral on social media which shows how bad the situation was at that time. We all should watch the movie and appreciate such movies so that we could see more of such movies in the future.
“Just returned after watching “The Kashmir Files”. It is shown in the film that the government running with the support of BJP did not try to stop the Kashmiri Pandits, but asked them to leave,” Baghel wrote on Twitter. “The army was not sent there. When former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi gheraoed the Lok Sabha, the army was sent.”
The Kashmir Files has courted controversy as critics accused the director of cherry-picking incidents to suit the narrative of the government of the day amid fears that the film may incite violence against the Muslim community. Several videos shot inside cinema halls have been doing rounds on social media in which people can be heard raising anti-Muslim slogans.
The film has received endorsement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who said the “history has to be presented in the right context”. At a parliamentary party meeting, PM Modi said that “those who carry around the flag of freedom of expression, that whole bunch is rattled for the last few days.”
We recommend all of our readers to watch the movie only in theaters and support such movies as it brings a sense of knowledge of our own history. If you haven’t watched the movie yet, you are missing it. You should wait no more.
