He died due to cardiac arrest in Mumbai. He was suffering from kidney problems for the last six months and was undergoing dialysis.

Pandit Shivkumar Sharma was born in a musical family in Kashmir. He took his early education in music from his father. He had mastered the santoor. He also took a job as a broadcaster with Jammu Radio at the age of 15.
Panditji got recognition in 1955 when he was called to play the role of Santoor at an event in Mumbai.
