Netflix Ray Web Series Review: When Netflix announced Ray, I was so excited about it. It was mainly because of the cast obviously, but even the plot looked interesting. The series was adopted from Satyajit Ray’s short stories. So, there were lots of things to look out for in Ray. And it might have matched the hype but still felt a little inconsistent.
Ray series is filled with all the things that you can ask for. The cast is amazing and their performance really matched their fame.
Out of four stories, two were just brilliant and the other two didn’t click with me. But they weren’t bad in any sense.
Saying that Ray was downright disappointing or it was a masterpiece will not do justice to the series. So, let’s take a look at all the positives and negatives of the series.

Netflix Ray web series: Positives
Netflix Ray Web Series Review: Cast
The main attraction of Netflix Ray is the cast of the series. And seriously, it didn’t disappoint even a single bit. Every cast member shined through and justified their name. Manoj Vajpayee, Gajraj Rao, and Chandan Roy Sanyal were undoubtedly the best performers for me in the series.
Gajraj Singh and Manoj Vajpayee starred in the fourth movie, “Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa”. And both of them stole the show.
That was undoubtedly the best story of the series and both of the cast members just knock it out of the park. Kay Kay Menon is just amazing and was like a one-man army in his Kolkata-based story. If the script of the story was tight he would have been the main star of the show.
Ali Fazal also did one hell of a job as an entrepreneur who never forgets anything. This might have been the best role of his career even if he only played it for one episode. The real surprise was Harshvardhan Kapoor.
He is a good actor, but he increased his stocks here. He might have been the best performer if it wasn’t for Manoj Vajpayee. So, if you want to see some good acting Netflix Ray is the series to watch.
Plot – Netflix Ray Web Series Review
The show consists of four episodes with four different stories. And one of them might have disconnected for me, but I liked the other three. Especially, the third story of the series “Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa” starring Gajraj Singh and Manoj Vajpayee.
I already told you how much I liked their performance, but the real reason they both shine was because the story complimented them. I won’t tell you the plot of the story as it might ruin your experience watching, but it is a must-watch.
Ali Fazal starring “Forget Me Not” is also a scary love letter by Satyajit Ray. The ending might have been a little dodgy but it won’t take anything away from everything else.
Music
I just loved the music of the series. It increased the tension of every story ten times and never disturbed my viewing experience. I might listen to Ray’s original soundtrack for a while now.
I won’t go into much detail about that because I can write about it all day. You have to watch the series if you want to know how good the music is. I can’t wait for the official soundtracks to come out so I can add them to my playlist.
Harsh Vardhan Kapoor – Spotlight
I would have included him in the Cast section but it wouldn’t be fair to him. The spotlight was the best story of the series and it was Harsh Vardhan’s story. He was absolutely phenomenal here.
Out of all the main leads he was the one with the least expectations and he shined the most. There are just pure magic moments and the insanity he showed in those scenes stole my heart. If nothing else, I can go and watch this episode of the series again and again.
Ray Web Series: Negatives
Endings
I told you that I liked the stories of the series. But what stopped Ray from being a masterpiece was the ending to every story. The ending to the first two stories seemed kind of heavy. No matter how beautifully distorted the stories were, the ending let them down.
The best example of it was “Bahupriya”, where Kay Kay Menon stole the show with his performance but the ending let him down. It was a real treat to watch all those emotions coming alive, but the ending dropped a ball here. And it was a similar case with the other two stories also.
Netflix Ray Web Series Review: Is It Worth It?
I will say, YES! There might be some negatives in the series, but the positives completely outweigh them. Even if I say that the endings are bad, the way we reached those endings was breathtaking. And I would be doing injustice to all the actors involved if I say no to this series. Because, no matter what, Netflix Ray is one of a kind experience and you shouldn’t deprive yourself of it.
Netflix Ray: Where To Watch?
You can watch the show on Netflix. The show has no regional boundaries so you can enjoy the show from anywhere. Netflix Ray consists of four episodes only. So, it is the perfect weekend watch if you ask me.
