Jalsa Movie Review: Amidst releases like ‘Bachchan Pandey’ on 18 March 2022, ‘Bloody Brothers’ also on 18 March 2022, and ‘Apharan Season 2’ on 16 March 2022, Vidya Balan and Shaifali Shah starer movie has arrived this week, ‘Jalsa’.
Jalsa features Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah are in the lead role released on Amazon Prime Video. The story of the movie starts on a late Friday night. We meet a boy and a girl and we know nothing about them. There is a dispute between the two about something. The girl runs on the road and, then she is hit by a car.
Then the scene goes back a few hours from this car accident. To a journalist named Maya Menon, whose role was played by Vidya Balan in the movie. Maya runs her own YouTube news channel and works on her terms with complete freedom. On the other hand, she has a med called Ruksana, played by Shefali Shah. Ruksana does not consider her work small, she is a self-respecting woman working for herself and not for others.
What is the effect of the incident at the beginning of the film on the lives of these two women, this is the rough story of the film. The film’s director Suresh Triveni had said in an interview to Times of India that I believe in the word Conflict a lot and you will find the same in the core of ‘Jalsa’.
Jalsa Movie Review
Jalsa Movie Review: Visible and Invisible Conflict or to say that the divide is visible throughout the movie. First of all, the class divide between Maya and Ruksana. Then throughout the film, you will see such scenes where there will be complete silence, you will also become comfortable in that silence, and only then this silence will be broken with a bang.
Like a character is sitting in a restaurant. Some realization hit him. The scene is absolutely silent, that’s when we hear the sound of pots falling on the ground, and our attention breaks. Absolute peace, and such a loud sound that breaks it. It happens in other places where there is complete peace in the scene, and the scream of a character is the first sound of that scene.
While talking about Conflict, I want to mention one more scene, otherwise, the dinner will not be digested. The girl who has an accident in the film says at one place that she cannot sleep in AC. Then after the accident, he is admitted to the big hospital. The first establishing shot of that hospital was of a moving AC, not the use of a machine or a stethoscope for a doctor.
Jalsa Review
Why is the title of the film ‘Jalsa’, it is understood at the very end of the story. There is no loud moment in the journey to reach there. The film feels like a slow burn. The major incident of the film happens in the first five minutes itself. After that only we get acquainted with the restlessness, anger, and guilt of the characters. There are before and after transitions of the characters of Vidya and Shefali, who follow the pace of the film in such a way that they do not seem abrupt.
At first glance, Vidya’s character Maya appears like a confident journalist. Don’t be afraid to ask uncomfortable questions to even the most influential guests. A sheet is covered, through which no one can peek. Can’t find out what his real personality is. But then the Maya after the accident seems completely opposite. Vulnerable, frightened C. Whose fingers tremble. Looking at Vidya, it seems that she did not face any problem in playing both the parts.
Seeing the rest of Ruksana became Shefali Shah, one may feel a connection, but does not feel pity. Things like what the poor thing will do now. Shefali’s mannerism will not make it seem that any lower economic class is acting like a woman. He speaks as much as he needs. The rest is for the eyes. The dialogues of the film are remembered by speaking, which was kept absolutely common language. The influence of cinema is also visible in the colloquial language of the middle class. Along with this, simple and hard-heating dialogues like ‘I also wanted to be a journalist, but I am very honest’ are also available.
After talking about all the positive points of the film, now let’s talk about the part that struck me. In the film, a trainee journalist is busy investigating this hit-and-run case. He gets all the big hints one by one, from some of his sources. It is never known how this investigation became so easy for him. It knocks in terms of writing. The rest of the people hoping for ‘something big will happen’ may not like ‘Jalsa’ that much. But still, it should be seen. Then tell that you can watch ‘Jalsa’ on Amazon Prime Video.
