OM Review: We thought that we are over the series of bad movies for 2022. But guess what, OM has just broken all the records of absurdity. From the trailers and the promotion of the movie, it looked like a decent masala entertainer movie.
But what we got on the screen was something so bad, that half of the people left the cinema halls before the movie even got finished. OM can be compared to the movies like Heropanti 2 and no one can deny the fact.
The absurdity of OM starts right from the first scene and remains there till the absolute last. The screenplay made it seem like we were in a different movie every 30 minutes. And that too a set of very bad movies.
We had some pretty high expectations from OM because of the efforts that every cast member put into the movie. so, here we are with OM Review, telling you the good and bad aspects of the movie, so you can see if you want to watch the movie or not.
OM Review: Plot Analysis
OM Review: The story revolves around a super-soldier Om, who has been assigned to an important mission of getting the Rashtra Kavach. Rashtra Kavach is an important element for the safeguard of the nation.
He was close to completing the mission when he was shot and lost all his memories. All his teammates are trying their hardest to get Om back on the field. But it is not as simple as it looks. As he has completely lost all his memories.
And another thing that constantly bugs Om is that he has to prove that his father was innocent and was not a traitor. And he will do anything to prove that and will go to any distance no matter how hard it is.
The story is seriously so basic and a very frequently used trope in Bollywood cinema. But Raj Saluja and Niket Pandey tried to make it different from either movie and failed miserably. If we can summarize the OM review in one sentence it would be “All Over The Place”.
OM Review: What Worked For The Movie
Action Scenes
Let’s give the makers and actors the credit where it’s due. The action scenes in the movie were pretty decent. Both the actors and the action directors did their job pretty well. And with Aditya Roy Kapur’s lean mass body, he fit the part as well.
The drama led to action scenes that were definitely forced for most of the movie. But the action scenes were pretty satisfactory to a certain point. Sanjana Sanghi also looked quite comfortable while performing the stunts.
Cast
There are lots of things left desired from the casting department as well. But comparing it with others, it did not feel that much underwhelming. Aditya Roy Kapur did a pretty decent job with what he was given.
Sanjana Sanghi was mostly a motivational factor for the lead hero and had nothing much to do. Ashutosh Rana did his role perfectly as expected of him. Once again, he is one of the most underrated actors in Bollywood right now.
Prakash Raj did his usual trope and we know he is good at it. The real problem we have with Prakash Raj is that he is doing the same thing since his Bollywood debut now. We don’t know how an actor of his caliber has not done something different in so long. He needs a change desperately.
OM Review: What Did Not Worked For The Movie
Story
Now, let’s get real. The story of the movie was very generic. We knew that from the start. But the way OM: What Worked For The Movie Raj Saluja and Niket Pandey tried to make it different from all other similar movies completely killed the movie.
It would have been fine if OM was generic for the most part. But to stand apart, the writers included and introduced so many things that it ruined the story completely. What started from a redemption story of a son turned out to be something else entirely by the end.
And for most of the parts, we were just rubbing our heads as to what happened. There are too many subplots in the movie and no one asked for this many subplots. And none of them made any kind of sense.
Dialogues
The dialogues are so cringy and so unorthodox. For the most part, we were questioning who actually talks like that. And the answer was simple, “No One”. There are certain dialogues that turn out to be good because of how bad they are.
But, with OM, the dialogues are so bad that there is no saving them. We literally saw people booing in the cinema hall after certain dialogues. And some of the audience members even left the hall.
Screenplay
I don’t know what to say actually. The makers decided to involve Om’s backstory, his medical phenomenon, father’s struggle, government intervention, and an undercover operation in just over 2 hours.
And with all these sub-plots it was like we were watching sets of short films. And none of those short films are good. Because not a single sub-plot made any sense to the story. Every subplot felt forced and so out of the place.
Climax
What was that climax for real? We had no idea how many locations were introduced in the movie in the first place. And in the end, all of it concluded in one place with a bike and truck chase scene. You went from having an emotional scene to a chase scene in just 2 minutes.
We had no idea how we reached there. And even after reaching Climax, it was so absurd that you would have face palmed yourself. We won’t tell you what actually went down in the climax, but it is such a nonsense scene.
OM: Is It Worth It?
OM Review: Absolutely Not!! We won’t even suggest you wait for the OTT release and watch it there. Because this is one of the worst movies ever made in Bollywood and there is no excuse for that.
You can save yourselves 2 hours and not watch this movie. And if you want to watch it, you should leave your brain out of the cinema hall before watching it.
