Nikamma Review: After watching the trailer, I asked myself why someone would remake Middle-Class Abbayi. Middle-Class Abbayi is a mediocre movie that was only praised because of a unique take on the lead’s romance.
The romantic plot in Middle-Class Abbayi was unique, and the chemistry between the lead pair salvaged that movie. But Nikamma did not have that kind of actors, and their chemistry was non-existent.
So, what happens when you remake a pretty average movie and even kill the one aspect that made that movie salvageable? You get one of the worst movies of the year that can compete against movies like Heropanti 2 in that aspect.
The generic script of the movie is one thing. A generic script can be turned into a pretty fun movie if done right. Take a movie like Simba, for example. But the cringefest we saw in Nikkama made the movie so much worse than it actually was.
Nikamma Review: Plot
Nikamma Review: The movie revolves around a lazy and unmotivated Aadi who lives with his elder brother and bhabhi. He has not done anything on his own, so his brother sends him with her Bhabhi, Avni, an honest RTO officer.
And when Avni starts a war against a corrupt goon trying to be an MLA. Aadi has to do everything to save his family. And that is the plot of the movie. There is nothing more in the plot, and it can be fine if the screenplay is good,
But the screenplay of this movie is pretty bad, considering everything. A pure masala action comedy does not have to be cringe to entertain you. But Nikkama falls in that category only. Let’s look at the movie’s good and bad aspects.
Nikkama Review: What Worked For The Movie?
Music
The music of Nikkama was one thing that you will like. “Tere Bin Kya” and “Nasha Ishq Ka” are perfect romantic tracks you will like. “Killer” is a perfect party song that will be played at many weddings and parties; we can just feel it.
Even the video of “Killer” is pretty nice. Shilpa Shetty looked amazing and showed us how she stole the whole of UP and Bihar. But the best track is definitely “Ab Meri Baari” which will become a gym anthem for lots of people.
The track is the perfect mix of loud upbeats and rap a song to look out for. The background score of the movie also works in favor. And felt pretty nice to the years.
Direction
This is us finding anything salvageable at this point. However, the direction was not excellent by any means. It was still good, considering what we were getting. There were certain shots that stood out because of how smartly they were directed.
So, we can say that the movie was directed smartly rather than beautifully. And for movies like Nikamma, that is the perfect kind of direction, in our opinion.
Nikkama Review: What Did Not Worked For The Movie?
Performances (Over Acting)
The performances in this movie were so dreadful that it was funny. Abhimanyu Dassani, who was pretty decent in “Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota” was unbearable here. Almost every scene involving him was overacted and was cringe to the max.
We had hoped with veterans like Abhimanyu Singh and Shila Shetty. While Shilpa Shetty had a decent performance, Abhimanyu Singh did not care. The way he overacted in every scene was bad and might even make you leave cinema halls.
Shirley Setia’s role was so short that she hardly got 30 minutes. And even in those minutes, she was unconvincing and made us laugh in the most serious moments. Abhimanyu Dassani had this monotonous tone for delivering every dialogue, which was shouting.
Script
When the original script from which the movie is adapted is terrible, how can the remake be any good? Moreover, the cringe dialogues and bad writing even made it worse. We will talk about it later.
But the fact that the core script of the movie is terrible, and you can’t expect to make a good movie out of that. Why the makers chose this one is still a mystery when we had so many amazing South Indian cinemas that can be adapted.
Bad Adaptation
We still don’t know why the makers thought the Middle-Class Abbayi remake is a good idea. And even if they adapted it, the adaptation is so bad. The main point that made Middle-Class Abbayi watchable was the chemistry between the lead artists.
And here, there was no chemistry between Abhimanyu and Shirley. And it killed the movie. The bad dialogues will make you laugh because of how cringe they are, and the over-the-top performances only worsen it.
Nikamma: Is It Worth It?
Nikamma Review: The answer is simple, NO!! Nikamma can be one of the worst movies of 2022, and we are not exaggerating. There was nothing worthwhile in the movie apart from the songs. And you can listen to it on Spotify.
Nikamma talks about how a Middle-Class family thinks before spending every single money. And that sent me in guilty about spending money on this movie.
