Ponniyin Selvan – Part One: Mani Ratnam is all geared up to showcase his epic historical fiction film Ponniyin Selvan soon. Mani Ratnam is the recipient of six National Film Awards so far. Ponniyin Selvan is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel, “Ponniyin Selvan.”
The film is about the early life of the greatest king of India named, Raja Raj Chola first. He ruled a major portion of South India and the Indian Ocean between the 985 to 1014 common era.
Mani Ratnam planned to adapt the novel in 1970 and 2000 but could make it due to financial problems and filming locations. After two failed attempts, Mani Ratnam managed to make his upcoming masterpiece and dream project in his eyes.
Ponniyin Selvan Storyline
The story of Ponniyin Selvan movie rotates around an attractive young man Vandiyathevan who sets out to Chola land to deliver Crown Prince Aditiya Karikalan’s message to the King and the Princess. The movie showcases the life of Chola Prince Arulmozhivarman, who becomes the most powerful King of South India.
Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan narrates his adventurous journey in the Chola Empire, who is a powerful warrior Prince of Vannar. Queen Nandini, was also known as Mandakini Devi. She was the wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar went on a mission to kill Aditya Karikalan and help her husband.
But Arulmozhivarman discovers Nandini’s planned conspiracies and other secrets. Vandiyadevan is assigned to bring Arulmozhivarman from Sri Lanka to save the padding.

Ponniyin Selvan Release Date and Budget
Rs. 500 crore is the estimated budget of Ponniyin Selvan, and it will be released in cinemas in two parts. The shooting of the Ponniyin Selvan first part was completed in September 2021, and it is scheduled to release on 30th September 2022. Along with the release date, the movie makers also provided additional information about the movie that it will be released in all 5 Indian languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.

Under the banner of Lyca Productions and in association with Madras Talkies, Ponniyin Selvan Part one is backed by Allirajah Subhaskaran along with Mani Ratnam. In 2019 Lyca Production decided to fund Mani Ratnam’s dream project. Dialogues of the movie are written by B. Jeyamohan, whose notable works include 2.0, Sarkar and he is also writing the dialogues for vigilante action movie Indian 2 starring Kamal Haasan.
Ravi Varman is cranking the camera on the technical end. Editing is done by Sreekar Prasad, who has achieved 8 National Film Awards so far. A.R. Rehman provided the music in the movie and is an awardee of 6 National Film Awards, 2 Oscar, 2 Grammys, and a Golden Globe Award.
