Samrat Prithviraj Review: Prithviraj has finally come out and we are here with the review already. Prithviraj had lots of things riding on its shoulder. Not only from a movie perspective but what fans have made this movie out to be.
It is not a mere movie at this point. With the constant comments by politicians, influencers, and other actors, this movie is being treated like a movie that has national significance. And they are not even wrong in thinking considering what this movie is based on.
Akshay Kumar has been on a roll with its promotion and is doing everything he can. He went to various shows, even promoted the movie on Youtube, and has done whatnot. But is this movie worth the hype?
That was always the question since the first trailer. Can Akshay Kumar, who only gives 3-4 months to a movie do justice to this role? Well, it is time we find out about it. So, let’s dive into the positive and negative aspects of the movie and see if it is worth it or not.
Samrat Prithviraj Review: Plot Analysis
Samrat Prithviraj Review: The movie covers some of the most important points in the life of Prithviraj Chauhan. With not many expectations from Akshay Kumar, the storyline was considered to be the saving grace of the movie.
The movie is based on Prithviraj Raso written by Chand Bardai, and played by Sonu Soon in the movie. The movie focuses on rising to the power of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan at a very young age.
The internal conflicts between the states. Marriage with Sanyogita, the daughter of the king of Kannauj with whom the conflict was highest. And the two battles against Mohammad Gouri and the aftermath.

Technical Masterpiece
Samrat Prithviraj Review: The technical aspect of this movie is just so good. From the production value to the color palettes, everything was just outstanding. The sets were beautiful, even the frames made you feel like you were living in the era.
But the best thing from the technical standpoint of this movie was the VFX of the movie. The VFX was so good and made everything believable. The lions at the climax of the movie looked so good and scary. It was a commendable job.
Supporting Cast
Ashutosh Rana might be my favorite actor of all time and you can’t change that. He once again proved why he is such an amazing artist as he stands out from the pack of actors in this movie. Sakshi Tanwar who played the role of his wife just also understood her task and gave her best performance.
Sonu Sood exceeds all the expectations and played the role of Prithviraj’s right-hand man, Chand Bardai amazingly. He was able to understand the character and knew what he had to bring to the table.
Samrat Prithviraj Review: What Did Not Worked For The Movie?
Music
Samrat Prithviraj Review: You can’t deny the fact that the thing that makes a period drama really epic is the music of the movie. Movies like Jodha Akbar, Padmaavat, and Bajirao Mastani, all had some brilliant tracks that made the audience thrive.
Sadly, Prithviraj did not have even a single track that was amazing. Don’t get us wrong, the songs were not bad, but they were not good either. It is so disappointing considering it is Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy who is taking care of that.
None of the songs hits the marks and makes us thrive to its tune in any way. And movies like these can get really affected because of this.
Antagonist
Manav Vij is an amazing actor and we have seen it in his movie. And this point is not a dig at him but rather at the character that he played. Even without comparing it to all the other antagonists, we have seen in the period drama, Mohammad Gouri felt pale.
It was like a one-tone rendition of the character where he wasn’t even able to rile you up when needed. You don’t feel the dread and fear from his character that you should and that is not a good sign in any way.
Runtime
It is a trend in these reviews that we criticize the running time of the movie. Just over 2 hours to cover all the things that were mentioned in the plot earlier is too less. All the things that the movie covered needed a bit more time to be presented.
And you will feel it while watching the movie that it feels completely rushed at so many points. Most of the time it feels like a montage rather than a battle scene. The movie never lets you settle on one thing to understand the emotions of the movie.
Questionable Main Cast
While the side cast was amazing, the same can’t be said for the main cast. Manushi Chillar in their debut really shines in moments but was not able to build the intensity needed for a character like Sanyogita. But her dialogue delivery and voice modulation were on point and her dance moves were beautiful. But still, something was missing.
Sanjay Dutt’s role was really shouting throughout the movie and nothing else. Akshay Kumar was Akshay Kumar and that was the bad part. Throughout the movie, we couldn’t get the fact out that this is Akshay Kumar on the screen.
It was not a bad portrayal but he never dives deep enough into the character as needed to make us care about it.
Samrat Prithviraj Review: Is It Worth It?
Samrat Prithviraj Review: By no means, the movie is bad. This had some really nice moments and the production gave you a larger-than-life experience. But, this movie deserved a longer running time and better music.
It is a good periodical drama but you won’t hold it as high as other historical dramas that you have seen so far.
