Cuttputlli Movie Review: Cuttputlli featuring Akshay Kumar is the story about A cop’s mission to track down a child abduction racket in the city. With inspector officer Akshay Kumar and police officer Manjit Singh. The movie will be released on one of the most watched OTT platforms – Disney+ Hotstar on 2 September 2022.
The movie is directed by Ranjit Tewari and written by Aseem Arora (screenplay & dialogue). The movie casts some well-known actors, including Akshay Kumar, Rakul Preet Singh, and Gurpreet Ghuggi.
Story
Cuttputlli opens in Parwanno, Himachal Pradesh, where two joggers discover a mutilated body of a teenage girl in a public place. Elsewhere, Arjan (Akshay Kumar), an aspiring director, is looking for a producer who will back his filmmaking debut as he is keen to make a film on a serial killer.
Sadly, due to family circumstances, Arjan is forced to give up his starry dreams. At one point, his sister Seema (Hrishitaa Bhatt) even tells him, “Raakhi ke din khaaki pehen le.” With the help of his brother-in-law, Arjan becomes a sub-inspector in Kasauli. Meanwhile, young girls continue to vanish in the quaint town, only to be found mutilated and dead.
Arjan channels his inner desi Sherlock Homes and proposes that there is a serial killer on the prowl. However, his superior SHO Parmar (Sargun Mehta) turns a deaf ear to it. As more dead bodies pile up, Arjan sets out on a trail to nab the psychopath until a personal loss brings the culprit closer to home.
Cuttputlli Movie Review: The audience is not impressed
Cuttputlli movie was released on Disney+ Hotstar on 2nd Sep, and just after the release, we headed over to IMDb to see how viewers were reacting. I was surprised to see the number of ratings and the maximum number of people who have rated it with a 1-star rating, making it a 5.2/10-star movie. When you see the numbers of ratings on 1 star, you will understand that it is intentional to harm the movie’s rating.
The reason of such activity is frequent rubbish talks coming out from Bollywood about Hindus and their beliefs. Bollywood tries its best to put down the religious beliefs of the Hindu community intentionally and now Hindus are answering with the same intensity.
But we will be looking at the facts about the movie unbiasedly to make a conclusion about the movie. You can and should boycott Bollywood or particular actors, but that’s not the point of this Review.
Cuttputlli Movie Review: What Went Right for the Movie?
Sagun Mehta did well
Sagun Mehta, in her limited role in the movie, has impressed the audience for the film, and she has done her job best to make a great impression on the viewers. She deserves at least 3.5 stars out of 5, -1.5 stars for the time she is on the screen, it’s very short.
Cuttputlli Movie Review: What went wrong?
Hurried Climax
One of the biggest disappointments of Cuttputlli is its hurried climax which is as ‘Cold’ as ice. When Ratsasan was released in 2018, a few critics expressed their displeasure over the long run of the film. While making Cuttputlli, Tewari tries to smooth those creases. Sadly, he ends up trimming a lot more than required and skips the detailing and characterization of the main villain, which takes away all the fun.
Having said that, he also rectifies a few flaws from the original. For instance, Suzane George’s one-toned character Lakshmi from Ratsasan is handled in a little better way in the form of SPI Parmar (Sargun Mehta) here.
Cast Performance
Akshay Kumar as the rookie cop Arjan gets to jump in the air, throw punches, and even mouth some supposedly-funny liners. However, his character lacks the timidness displayed by Vishnu Vishal’s Arun Kumar. His emotional scenes, too, come across as feeble. But his performance could have been far better as a cop.
Music
The music in the movie is average; the only music I like is Ghibran’s haunting background score from Ratsasan in Cuttputlli! We also get two below-average songs (‘Saathiya’ and ‘Rabba’) which merely come across as glam props in the narrative.
Final verdict: Should you watch the movie?
Well, we haven’t found anything special about the film. Most of the parts can be found in Ratsasan, a great thriller with better case performance and excellent background scores. If you would ask me if you should watch the movie or not, I’d suggest you watch any other movie instead of this one, that’d be a better use of your time.
