HIT: The First Case Review: Finally, the remake of one of the most beloved Telugu films, HIT, was released earlier today, and it is sad to see how they adapted this remake. In the era of OTTs and pandemics, almost every Indian has watched the original.
So the only reason to watch a remake is to get some new perspective on the movie. Well, you will get something new but will be disappointed ultimately. HIT: The First Case shined on certain occasions, but as a whole, it is utterly disappointing.
With a cast this good, I was excited to watch this movie. Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra are some of the most underrated actors in the industry right now. Rajkummar Rao exceeded those expectations and showed his worth.
But Sanya was barely featured at all. We will discuss all the aspects in detail, so buckle up your seatbelts. Here is our HIT: The First Case Review, telling you the positives and negatives of the movie so you can decide to watch the movie or not.
HIT: The First Case Review: Positives
Rajkummar Rao
Rajkummar Rao is a gem. After some underwhelming and extraordinary commercial ventures, he is back in complete form. He just shows you that even if the script and screenplay are underwhelming, he can shine and will leave you speechless.
His portrayal of a disturbed police officer fighting his demons is praiseworthy. He has not done a single scene wrong in this movie. You will feel for the character and will root for him. And he was able to do that in this lackluster movie.
Music
Well, it is no match for the original one, but the music of HIT is still good. ‘Kitni Haseen Hogi’ is genuinely a Haseen track by Arijit Singh. Showing you how vulnerable our lead character is. And you will root for the couple so he can have some peace.
Tinka by Jubin Nautiyal is also a brilliant song. Showing us all the struggles of the lead character. The song rolls in the opening credit and is similar to the original movie’s opening credit. It is truly a journey to watch this song only.
PTSD Triggers
We can give the credit for this feat to Rajkummar Rao as well. He showcased the PTSD triggers and how they affected his work and personal life was terrific. The case of denial and then finally accepting it is emotional.
This is the only positive in terms of the technical standpoint of the movie. They handled those scenes pretty well. And the social message they tried to deliver worked only because of these scenes.
HIT: The First Case Review: Negatives
Supporting Cast
It was more of a case of the supporting cast not being given enough time, but there were disappointing performances. Sanya Malhotra, Dalip Tahil, and Shilpa Shukla gave their best, but their screentime was so few that you won’t even notice them.
But the other supporting cast members who were given ample screentime were mediocre. The lead character’s right-hand man, his professional rival all of these characters was useless because of the performance.
Editing
HIT: The First Case has some of the worst editing I have seen. Almost every transition in the movie was the same. A fade blackout filter was used to jump between the scenes. And that was constant throughout.
Besides, it was so hasty that you won’t get time to digest anything happening in the movie. The jumpcuts were so fast that even the characters did not get a complete chance to showcase their emotions entirely.
Screenplay
Just like the Editing, the screenplay of the movie was also hasty. It was like you were watching this movie in 2x. It was so fast that you could not settle down with one emotion. Before a scene was finished, another scene was introduced.
And after a while, it becomes frustrating to watch this movie. You want the movie to settle down at a point and give you a breather, but that won’t happen. The original movie was also fast-paced and had similar encounters in certain scenes.
And it looks like director Sailesh Kolanu did not learn from his old mistakes and made it even worse here.
Climax
Another case of the director not learning from his old mistakes and increasing the absurdity even more. The original’s climax was absurd and lies in the category of unbelievable from a realism aspect.
They tried to change the climax to spice things up, but it fell flat on their face. As the absurdity increased 10x and it was even more unbelievable. The climax is the final nail in the coffin of a disappointing watch.
HIT: The First Case Review: Is It Worth It?
HIT: The First Case Review: HIT is another case of a director remaking their film while not working on the flaws that were there in the original. Shoddily edited and with nothing new to offer.
HIT is a very average thriller. They have tweaked the ending a bit, but a shocking twist doesn’t always mean that it makes sense and is well-written. The movie would have been perfect for an OTT release rather than a theatrical one.
Rajkummar Rao is brilliant as always.
