Escaype Live Review: From the trailer and the promotion campaign, it looked like we would get one of the best shows of the year in Escaype Live. It is a prime example of how an up-and-coming concept can be ruined by lazy writing.
Disney+ Hotstar has been experimenting with different concepts over the years in order to provide the audience with something different. But most of the time they forget that nothing new will work unless the writing is good.
And the same thing happened with Escaype Live. What indeed could have been a fantastic thriller turns out pretty disappointing in the end. Even with all the good performances by a star-studded cast, it fails to really leave an impact on the audience.
Disney+ Hotstar is yet to release two more episodes on May 27 that will serve as a series finale. And we hope that those two episodes might save the show because the way it is going as of now, it is going to be doomed. You may like: Downton Abbey: A New Era Box Office Collection Day 3
Escaype Live Review: Plot
Escaype Live Review: The official synopsis of the show reads “The different journeys of six regular Indians as they struggle to win, fame and fortune on a social media app called Escaype Live which promises big money to the winning contestant. Will the real and virtual lines begin to blur as they gear up for the contest?”
The show is based on the current scenario of the world. The world is ruled by a social media app called Escaype Live. It is an app just like Tik Tok and Reels where people all around the globe show their talent.
The twist comes when Escaype Live owners announce that they will be doing a challenge. Where the user with the most viral videos will get 3 crore rupees as a winning price. And that starts a sensation among the Escaype Live users that we have never seen before. You may like: Home Shanti Review: A Show That Could Have Been Much More
All the middle-class users of Escaype Live will compete with each other to win that prize money. But it is not all happy tales. The users will go on to any level and do anything to win that prize money. No matter what it takes.
But, the show takes a dark turn when everyone takes every step they can to win that price money even if they have to sell their humanity for it. Will the insanity take over or will there be a savior? For you: Dhaakad Review, Plot Analysis, Cast Performance, and More
Escaype Live Review: What Worked For The Show?
Delayed-Release
No matter what you say, the decision to release two episodes on a later date is kind of smart. If the fans have invested for seven episodes, they will definitely watch the next two. And waiting for an attack just increases the anxiety regarding what will happen.
So, it might not be related to the show but the marketing strategy is really nice here. Even if by the end of the seventh episode you were tired of the show. The break of 7 days will recharge you again for the next two episodes.
Cast
The cast of the show also did wonders for the show. It was obvious considering the star power they had. And all the artists involved are of really high caliber as they have proved again and again.
And all of them did justice to whatever they were given. Even after the lazy writing, they were able to make something out of it on the basis of their performances only. There was hardly any loose performance in the show. Also read: Bagheera: KGF producer announces his upcoming film
Concept
The concept of the show is not only new but also relatable. We have seen over the years how social media videos can get viral and also it can ruin lives. And not many shows or movies have really touched on this topic.
So, concept-wise it was really smart and had something going on for it. Just a shame they were not able to capitalize on that momentum.
Escaype Live Review: What Did Not Work For The Show?
Too Many Sub-Plots
The main problem with the show is that it tries too much. There are too many things going on at the same time and none of them feels right. Half of them does not even get finished and were left abruptly.
There are social issues, political issues, and religious issues. And all above that the main theme of science fiction and greed is also there. So, there are so many things and so less and underwhelming aftermath.
Too Unreal
Despite the fact that show is based on such a relatable topic, it never felt real. Everything felt like it was happening in some other world. And that is always a bad thing no matter what the concept of the show is. Also read: Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Review: A Surprising Movie
Tone
The tone of the show is also problematic. It looks like there is no middle point for the show. Either it will give us nothing or it will try to give us everything at once. Show gets dramatic and loud so quickly that it is irritating at points.
Escaype Live Review: Is It Worth It?
Escaype Live Review: Considering the hype it got and the expectations of everyone, No!! It is not worth it. It is not a bad show but it is not good either, and that is worrying. The fact that there was something from which we can expect something after so long and it turns out like this is disappointing.
Still, there are two more episodes left and we hope that the show might pick itself again with a good ending. Keep reading: SSR Movies – Latest Bollywood & Hollywood Dual Audio Movies Download
